AN EMAIL FROM SONU SANDHIR (SAT UNCLE'S SON)

Hello Holly,

How are you? My dad told me of your father's passing away and I was very, very saddened to hear the news. I know we haven't stayed in touch much, but my heart and thoughts go out to you and your family. I would like to post a few words of Kulwant Uncle.

My memories of Kulwant Uncle are very fond. It was in 1985 or 1986 when I visited the family with my father. The Singh family had just moved into their new home and we stayed with them. I remember those long evenings filled with laughter around dinner vividly. I remember the balcony that looked out into the road that was yet to be paved and riding with Mannu on the scooter. And the busy pharmacy where Uncle and Aunty provided medicine and advice to people while I sat behind the counter and watched.

But most of all, I remember Kulwant Uncle as a happy, giving, and good natured person. He would smile often and I think it was infectious because I remember feeling happy around his company. He was a good father who raised three wonderful, bright, and loving children, and I'm sure he was a good husband. It is with great sadness and sorrow that Kulwant Uncle is gone, but he has left an indelible impression on everyone around him. I will miss him tremendously. My deepest thoughts and condolences go out to Aunty, Holly, Gudiya, and Mannu. With lots of love, Sonu
